Jamie Pierre: The Cliffjumping Crazy Skier
by Chris Nadeau on Dec.04, 2008, under Lifestyle Reflections
If you’re not into extreme skiing or boarding then chances are you have no clue who Jamie Pierre is. Jamie Pierre is a fairly popular professional free skier. While Pierre is a great skier in his own right, his skiing prowess is overshadowed only by his absolute insanity. Pierre set a world record when he jumped off a cliff in Grand Targhee Resort, Wyoming landing 255 feet into powder and surviving unharmed.A Fox News affiliate in Utah does a piece on Pierre and attempts to give a better perspective on exactly how high his drop was.
A very relaxed looking Pierre puts his feet up and gives an interview by a pool. Jamie reveals how he got started in extreme skiing.
Pierre’s famous jump from a different perspective.
Jamie gives step-by-step instructions on how to plummet 255 feet off a mountain. Believe it or not the words “safe” and “smart” were used. Choice words considering he was also quoted as saying “I prefer to land on my back.”
Other notable lunatic free skiers include Titus Engelberg whose record drop was 210 feet and Leo Brayman whose record drop was 230 feet. Jamie’s latest exploit was in 2007 when he did a pioneer ski decent of Alaska’s Mount Emmerich via Northeast Couloir.
After Jamie’s record breaking jump he made a promise to his wife and newly born child that he would no longer attempt to best it saying he would “stick to 50 foot drops from now on.”
We need to be thankful for people like Jamie Pierre. Its adrenaline seekers like him who volunteer their lives to push boundaries and further the human race. It’s unfortunate that Pierre wasn’t born in an earlier time when his penchant for pushing the limits could have lead to a more significant discovery than finding out a human can survive a 255 foot fall into a pile of snow.
