Is It Legal For A Group Of Four 17 Year Olds To Rent A Chalet In Switzerland?

I know some people who rent a chalet, which me and my friends would like to rent for a week in the summer, but they’re not sure whether its legal for them to do this, since we’re all under 18. Does anyone know what the law is?

It isn’t illegal as such. The problem arises from the fact that under 18s can’t legally be held to contracts, so if you did sign the contract, you wouldn’t actually have to pay, which is why no landlord would let an under 18 sign the contract. If you get an over 18 to pay then you’ll be able to circumvent this problem.
However, some landlords may have age restrictions on who can stay in their chalets due to a concern that younger people may be less responsible. For this reason, some might ask you to pay a breakage deposit of say £100 which would be refunded to you after your holiday if you hadn’t broken anything. You could suggest this to the owner of the chalet that you and your friends want to rent, if he is still not happy.

They’re shouldn’t be any law surrounding this as it would just be like checking into a hotel. Generally the rules of the age limit would be set by the landlord. Your best bet is to contact the owners of the chalet.
Good luck

Don’t see why it should be illegal. You don’t need a license to holiday in a chalet. Then again I’m not a lawyer

I’m not from Europe but I can’t see how or why it would be illegal.
