If You Have Six Baths In A Six Bedroomed Chalet, What Size Hot Water Tank Do You Need?
by James on Jul.07, 2009, under Chalets
I’m just thinking of how much water would be used by six baths, assuming the chalet was full with 12 people!

A combi boiler would be useless as it would only have capacity to fill one or two baths at a time. I would suggest that you will need two Megaflow cylinders, one for each of three baths. The capacity should be at least 180-200 liters, unless you have enough heat from a gas boiler or 6kw of immersion heaters to get a very quick recovery. I suggest that you contact Heatrae Sadia for further advice.http://www.heatraesadia.com/hs/heatraes.…

Surely it’s better to have a combi boiler thats supplies hot as needed

For one chalet, you would need a hot water tank measuring 36×18 inches. If you wanted to supply the 6 chalets from one hot water tank, then it would haveto be made by special order.

I think I would consider a tankless water heater. Unlimited hot water. They are more expensive up front but not more then buying 2 conventional water heaters. The operating expense will be a lot less. My concern would be water pressure if multiple baths were being used at the same time.

a 40 or 50 gallon heater for each 2 baths

You actually would be better off to have two water heaters a 50 to 75 gallon water heater for three bathrooms each. That way you can be sure to have plenty of hot water in the event that there was full use happening. A typical house uses a 40 gallon and can have two high demand devices working at the same time. so if you upsize from that and have more than one you will be better off.
