Of course, the temple ruins od Angkor and Phnom Penh are the two biggest attractions of Cambodia, together maybe with Sihanoukville if you want to take a rest in a beach resort. But there are many many other places worth a visit, both from a historical and a cultural perspective, too much to sum up here. You may find some suggestions here: http://www.taxivantha.com
Concerning security, take the obvious precautions and don’t show off your wealth in a country where more than 30% of the population still lives under the poverty line of $1 per day. However, as a foreigner, you will run less risks than a Cambodian. I guess that London, Paris or New York are ten times as dangerous as Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, if you don’t know the city.
Money: buy (or keep) US dollars: they are the main currency, the Riels (Cambodian currency) are used as small change. Coins are not used. The smallest currency unit is the 100 Riel note ($0.02)

Siem Riep for Angkor Wat. Phnom Phen for the killing fields……its creepy but interesting. Also check out the prison in Phnom Phen where the Poi Pot used to imprison and torture their own people.
People are generally nice there like Thai people. However, I heard it can be dangerous at night. No worries for the most part though.
Have fun.

Go to Seam Reap. See sun rise at Angkor Wat, sun set at the Bakheng Hill. Visit the South Gate of Angkor Thom, Bayon,Royal Palace, terrace of leper king, terrace of the elephants. Lake Tonle Sap,Ta phrom. my advise is study the history before going there.
