If your tax situation is simple (all of your income is through employment or interest on bank accounts) then doing it yourself is very easy. There is no need to pay someone a large percentage of your refund.
You can also use one of the software packages available and file electronically. Some are web-based, so you do not need to install anything on a computer.
Here is a list of all the approved software packages:http://www.netfile.gc.ca/software-e.html

I live in quebec and I’ve been using http://www.ufile.ca for years. Before I was able to efile I did it myself on paper and it was a pain in the butt. Mostly because we have 2 returns to file, and having a spouse and children, the Federal return was easy, but the Provincial one made my head hurt, lol.
With ufile, you just fill out the interview and then fill in the blanks. They ask all the right questions and the computer claims everything you’re entitled to.
If you don’t want to go with ufile (which costs $20 if you make over $20,000, under that it’s free) it’s pretty easy to find accountants that will do your taxes for $20-$30. Just ask around or look in the classifieds. You don’t need to find a company to do it, they’ll charge you more than a private person.
